Hi all,

I want to load the system tables on Maxdb 7.6.05_15.

using  dbmcli -d xxx -u control,<passwd>l load_systab -u superdba,<passwd> -ud domain

and I get

-24907,ERR_DBAWRONG: wrong SYSDBA

an sql_execute select * from users shows

OK

END

'CONTROL';'';'CONTROL';'ADMIN';'MULTIPLE';(null);(null);(null);'DEFAULT';'20070208';'00101102';'20070208';'00101102';'20070208';'00101102';'XXX';'host';0;'NO';(null)

So the user superdba should be ok to use.

Does anbody have an idea how to fix this?

Thank you.

SAP Mini does not display database instance

Hello out there!

I'm installing a SAP mini on my virtual Win Server 2008 R2. Installation process has been sucessful but now I'm not sure how I can move on. I've installed the MaxDB database manager and now I want to connect to the NSP database.

The instruction says:
Click on Add <- I did

Click on Add on the pop-up window <- I did

Normally now the local server and the NSP database instance should be display. But in my case there is no NSP instance display.
For that reason also no entry for the NSP database is added to the main window.

What can I do to connect to the database? What have I done wrong?

Dear Friends,

We hae installed SAP MaxDB 7.7.028 on Windows 2003 x86 server. Under Services.msc, I see the following services...

MAXDB: .M770428

MAXDB: .M770428 (SLOW)

MAXDB: .M770609

MAXDB: .UMDB

MAXDB: .SDB Started

MAXDB: .SDB (SLOW)

What exactly are these services and what is the differenece between a SLOW service and a regular service?

Thank you,

Nikee

Content Server 6.4 on MaxDB 7.6 to CS 6.5 on MaxDB 7.9

$

Hello,

we actually hae a content server in version 6.4 based on MaxDB 7.6 and Windows Server 2003. The documents are stored in the database (~900GB)

What we have to do is to adapt the whole landscape, indeed a new Windows Server 2012, CS 6.5 and MaxDB 7.9.

Unfortunately I could not find any convenient solution for my purpose. Which way would you prefer and which was is the practically.

-> Fresh CS 6.5 installation based on Max DB 7.9 on the new Windows Server 2012. Whats next?

An export of the old CS repository and import it to the new CS? or

Restore from a backup of the old MaxDB?

As far as I know the upgrade from CS 6.4 to 6.5 is only replace some dll's, right? (note 514500) But regarding PAM CS 6.5 is not supported on Windows Server 2003, so I can not make an upgrade on the current system.

Should I have to make any pre activities on the current system prior to this?

Thank you for your assitance.

Connect dbacockpit to maxdb

Hi

I am doing a system copy of content server from a Win2003 system to a Win2012 system.

These are the steps

Installed cs 6.40 on win2012

backup database on old cs

recovery of database with backup of old system

All runs fine and documents can be accessed from SAP

Now I want to setup dbacockpit.

using user control for dbm connection

usin user sapr3 for sql

The dbm connection is fine, but the sql connection cant be made.

Looked like a user/pw issue, but I am able to logon to database with SAPR3/SAP so the password seems ok.

I tried to connect a system which I just installed and did not do the db recovery on, used CONTROL and SAPR3 and that one got setup OK.

Can I just reset the SAPR3 password to SAP in the maxdb? Do I have to update the password in SAP ERP too somewhere?

Or isnt the user/password not the issue?

Thanks

Sander

Hello,

I have a problem in connection between SAP and its database (MaxDB 7.9). When I check using DB59 -> Connection Test -> Connection Test, the check result was error. Here is the log:

Application Server:  prodbap_BAP_30                                         ( SunOS      )

   1. Connect. test with "dbmcli db_state"                                    Unsuccessful

The SAP are unable to get the database state through the db_state command. When I check using dbmcli, I was succesfully get the database state. Here is the result:

dbmcli -d BAP

dbmcli on BAP>user_logon SUPERDBA,<pwd>

dbmcli on BAP>db_state

I already check on KnlMsg but couldn't find any error on that log. I think that this issue is only about connecting the SAP and database but I have no idea what should I adjust.

Understand what happens during Restart into Admin and Online mode

$

Hi Folks,

There is a new section in SCN which explains in detail what happens during the restart of a SAP MaxDB database based on Version 7.9 into admin and online mode.

http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/x/n4s8Gg

Checking this section you will understand the information in KnlMsg file related to the restart.

Starting the database into Admin mode starts the so called Runtime environment first, reading parameters, creating the kernel process structure ....

This section in KnlMsg is never overwritten. This section is used to find out which was the parameter setting the database was started with, the memory configuration, the Kernel OS limits, .....

The section start into Admin mode ends with the message ServerDB is ready.

After the database is in admin mode the restart goes on - Attaching the volumes, restart the file directory, doing the Redo undo .....
This section in the KnlMsg end with the message Kernel state: 'ONLINE' reached.
This section will be overwritten with connect, status and error messages while the database is in online mode.

This information about the restart can help to find the reason for failing restarts.

Helpful here as well is the recommended Expert Session 18 about SAP MaxDB Architecture. (Link available in the section)

How to solve Log Full Situation / How to solve Database Full Situation

$

Hi Folks,

there is a new SCN Section which tells you

1. how to solve a log full situation.
Please keep in mind that a log full situation will never be solved with an Add of a new log volume !

Log full situations can only be solved creating aMaxDB log backup. Details and how to prevent Log full situations can be found in the following section.

http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/MaxDB/SAP+MaxDB+Log+Area+FullMaxDB

Please keep in mind that a precondition for a sucessful Log backup is a data backup done before with DatabaseStudio or DBMCLI. (Save data). If such a backup is missing in the backup history neither save log nor autosave log will solve the situation. Then a save data has to be executed first.

2. Data area full ( DB FULL)
can be easily solved by adding a new Data Volume using DBMCLI or DatabaseStudio which is possible in online mode. You don't need to stop the database to add a new volume. Details can be found in the folowing link.

http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/MaxDB/SAP+MaxDB+Data+Area+Full

Please keep in mind that the Add volume does not check if there is enough free space in the file system for the new data volume. Please check it before the ADD command is executed.

What should you do if even when everything seems to be fine the ADD volume failed:

If you got problems during ADD Data Volume (if it failed e.g. because of file system full)  please never change manually the parameter file by dropping data volume parameters from the parameter file.

Depending on when the add data volume failed the new volume configuration is already part of volume sequence on the data volumes.

If you need help to get out of this situation please do nothing than open an SAP ticket ( for SAP customers) or post your problem here.

Hope these sections will prevent such stand still situations in the future.

Hi,

I'm trying to install latest Maxdb (maxdb_all_win_64bit_x86_64_7_9_08_35) on a Windows 10 (64bit) machine. I know it is not supported but perhaps someone can help.

Installation process failes just at the beginning of step 6a (Install Software) without any error message (just a red cross, see attched screenshot).

In the installation logfile (attached) the only error is :ERR:  Invalid value for type "string"

Can someone help?

Thanks in Advance

How to analyze database Crashes in detail using SAP MaxDB Log files

$

Hi Folks,

the following new SCN section describes how to get as much as possible information about a database crash out of the log files KnlMsg, rtedump; RTEMemory_chunk and AK.stm.

http://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/x/zwRQGg

This information allows you to get as close as possible to the reason for a database Crash in OLTP,BW and liveCache Systems.
You'll find as well a link to the WebPTS where all known crashes are stored. If it is a known crash you'll get the information as of which SAP MaxDB Version the crash reason is solved.

Dear MaxDB Guru's

I am trying to restore a maxdb database from one server to another server using Windows Pipes.

I am following the steps exactly as per SAP note 489615. and after following the note.

LiveCache Server Installation with SWPM?

$

Dear colleagues, Maybe a bit strange question, but it seems that I’m missing something. I want to install LiveCache server for test purposes on a box with SCM installed (NW 7.3 EHP1). According to  Installation guide (Document Version: 1.9 – 2016-01-22) https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000762217&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000202& In the installation part, 4.1 we can find about the installation: In the Welcome screen, choose the required installation option for your product and release to install the liveCache server or client: liveCache server Choose SAP Systems ->Standalone Engines->liveCache->liveCache Server. But Software Provisioning Manager (last version: SAPinst Version 2016.01.0, codeline: 720-2_REL, variant: optU (build: 1640756)) doesn’t have liveCache option (or I’m missing it somewhere down the lane) My steps: 1. SAP Enhancement Package 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.3 2. MS SQL Server 3. SAP Systems 4. Standalone Engines – but there were just Gateway, Web Dispatcher and Idm Installation Options Where is LiveCache installation? I  went through (almost all) suitable options. Thank you for the answer. Kind regards, Samo

Huge cache consumption after backup_finish command

Hi,

we use external backup tool for backing up 7.9 MaxDB databases. When i finish backup (release snapshot) by command backup_finish, the usage of data cache grows up rapidly for some time, then it returns to normal state. It's mainly visible with bigger databases (around 4TB).

Is there anyone with the same experience?

Is that a bug?
