I use MaxDB 7.8.02.35 on SLES 11.2 (Kernel 3.0) OLTP & DBStudio 7.9.08.12

I wanted to resize (shrink) & relocate the logfiles. As I found out this is only possible with a backup/restore with initialization (Note 869267 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB log area  ). Before backup the DB had Redo-Management deactivated for performance-reasons.

The Backup went fine as did the Recovery with initialization, all done through DBStudio.

But if I try to start the DB with db_online I get the following error:

-24988,ERR_SQL: SQL error

250,Duplicate secondary key

3,Database state: OFFLINE

Internal errorcode, Error code 3320 "duplicate_invkey"

db_admin works fine.

I tried the approach from Lars mentioned in  http://scn.sap.com/thread/1803992  but it didn't help.

Also, as I didn't change any parameters during initialization, usernames and passwords should be the same as before, as is the DBSID and everything else.

Any ideas?

With SLES11 SP3 raw device is no longer supported by Suse.

Question: How can i change the raw devices for the data area and log area to files?

We have installed ERP 6.0 and NW Portal 7.02 in the same Windows server 2008 with MaxDB 7.6.

We are now planning to install Solution Manager 7.1 with MaxDB 7.8, for that we need to upgrade earlier instances from MaxDB 7.6 to MaxDB 7.8.

For upgrading to MaxDB from 7.6 to 7.8 i have below queries.

1) Is it possible to upgrade directly from 7.6 to 7.8

2) Solution manager installation will supports MaxDB 7.8?

3) The upgrade can be done in one instance or two instances.

4)We have downloaded the MaxDB Software (51042685_10 for Windows) and MaxDB update software (51042685_12 for Windows). As per the standard upgrade document it says to run below command from the MAXDB_UPDATE folder

"DBUPDATE.BAT -s <SAPSID> –d <DBSID> -u <DBM,DBM password> [ -dir <temporary directory> ]"

I have a doubt that the download which i have MaxDB update software (51042685_12) is only 240 KB. Whether we need to start upgrade from 51042685_12 software or 51042685_10 (In this DVD also DBUPDATE.BAT is available).

Hi,

we have done upgrade for MaxDB version from 7.3 to 7.5 (windows 2003), it seems upgrade done successfully but when i check the DB version it showing old version like 7.3. before run the upgrade command i took the full DB backup also and i switched DB mode from online to offline. even i don't find any kind of upgrade log file also. please check below error screenshot and help us to resolve this issue.

Hello,

as of patch MaxDB 7.9.08.11 this parameter speeds up the restart of the database. I could even verify this, with a database usually needed 15 minutes to start and now starts within 5 minutes.

Unfortunately I can not find a useful documentation of this parameter. So I have a few questions.

Which value should be used (even default value 0 seems to speed up the start of the database)?

Which influence has this parameter to the database (smaller cache usage, higher impact at starting, any dangers)?

Has anyone got experience with this parameter?

We are getting an alert in Live Cache alert monitor :No update of the Optimizer statistics in the last 3 months, in APO system.

APO system database on DB2 and Live cache on SAP DB. I have no idea on SAP DB Optimizer statistics.

Suppose, if  No update of the Optimizer statistics  running in the system , any drawbacks

Good morning experts.

I am a Basis Architect and working towards setting up our SAP environment to support near Zero downtime. I have successfully setup our SQL Server databases, NW Instances and even TREX to support that model.

I am looking for some suggestions on how to setup HA on the SAP content server. Currently we are moving our SAP content (attachments to PO/Invoices, Marketing attachments etc. from our ECC and CRM systems to SAP content Server. Also archiving stuff is moved to the content Server. This makes the Content Server critical for business. Therefore any downtime is an outage for business.

SAP does not have a HA model for SAP content server(at least I could not find any information). the maxDB part does support failover clustering but for the Content server IIS services, I could not find any information. I am looking for a multi node HA model where I can achieve High Availability for incidents, like if the server crashes, there is another instance it can automatically failover to. Also during any maintenance I can work node by node without causing any outage.

we have a VMware virtual environment on windows. I am open to suggestions using the technologies provided by VMware and supported by SAP.

I know I can start using a non SAP utility to manage content like Opentext, IBM Content management, but these solutions are like a blackhole. Once you get into them, there is no way out unless you are willing to spend millions. Also of-course SAP Content Server is free and we have a single point of support. .

Our DEV and QAS Serves goes down every weekend for offline backup

includinng livecache servers which are hosted on different LPAR on the

same physical servers.

Currently we manually start live cache usig LC10 every monday.We would

like to automatically start livecache when SAP server comes after

offline backup.

I searched many notes but did not find any option given .Can you please

suggest us the notes or any doc which will automate livecache autostart.

Recently we are facing some backup issues with backup tool COMMVAULT backing up database MAXDB. This problem is really strange as it happens intermittent. We exported a BW 7.0 system using R3load (newest tools and SMIGR_CREATE_DDL) and now importing it into the target system.

Source database size is ~ 800 GB.

The export was running a bit more than 20 hours using 16 parallel processes. The import is still running with the last R3load process. Checking the logs I found out that it's creating indexes on various tables:

As one can see on the timestamps the creation of one index can take an hour or more.

x_cons is showing constant CrIndex reading in parallel, however, the througput is not more than 1 - 2 MB/sec.  Those index creation processes are running now since over two days (> 48 hours) and since the .TSK files don't mentioned those indexes any more I wonder how many of them are to be created and how long this will take.

The whole import was started at "2010-04-20 12:19:08" (according to import_monitor.log) so running now since more than three days with four parallel processes. Target machine has 4 CPUs and 16 GB RAM (CACHE_SIZE is 10 GB). The machine is idling though with 98 - 99 %.

I have three questions:

- why does index creation take such a long time? I'm aware of the fact, that the cache may not be big enough to take all the data but that speed is far from being acceptable. Doing a Unicode migration, even in parallel, will lead to a downtime that may not be acceptable by the business.

- why are the indexes not created first and then filled with the data? Each savepoint may take longer but I don't think that it will take that long.

- how to find out which indexes are still to be created and how to estimate the avg. runtime of that?

I am trying to download MaxDB from the link:

I was able to download "SAP MaxDB Database Studio",

but once I click on the link for Windows "X86 64bit",

the page goes back to the "Netweaver Community Page".

Am I missing anything? Can someone help?

Greetings, I am installing MaxDB on a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04. The install is failing in the initial stages when it fails to find libstdc+.so.5. Ubuntu 10.04 supports libstdc.so.6 and I verified it is installed. However, the MaxDB install will not complete without finding libstdc+.so.5. has anyone come across this and what did you do to overcome the issue?

We are running SAP on MAXDB 7.7 + WIndows 2008R2 and I am having very lite knowledge in MAXDB.

We used to take our MAXDB backup on local drive with DBMGUI and it went fine but now we are trying to take backup on Network Shared Drive with DBMGUI but it is giving the below error (D:\sapdb\data\wrk\SID\dm.prt):

I have an old machine with CentOS 5 and MaxDB 7.6 64bits community edition, and I plan to install a new machine with CentOS 6.4 and MaxDB 7.8 64bits, what is the better approach for this type of migration?

1. Install MaxDB 7.6 on new machine, restore backup and upgrade to 7.8?
2. Install MaxDB 7.8 on new machine and use loader with data that was exported from 7.6?
3. Install MaxDB 7.8 on new machine and restore backup from 7.6? (this one I dont know if works)
4. Install MaxDB 7.6 on new machine, restore backup, upgrade to 7.7 then upgrade to 7.8?

backup was made with follow command:

backup_start completeF MIGRATION

analyzing some threads on forum I think that the better approach was the number 4, but I like more the approach 3.
